SENATE ENQUIRY - READ SOME SUBMISSIONS



As might be expected, it is somewhat difficult to find a link to Senator Brandis''arts enquiry' since its title is:
Impact of the 2014 and 2015 Commonwealth Budget decisions on the Arts

Fair enough you may say,(if you knew the title), but where to find it? Legal and Constitutional Affairs is the answer.

On this page the enquiry ambit is described thus:

On the 16 June 2015 the following matter be referred to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs References Committee for inquiry and report:

a.the impact of the 2014 and 2015 Commonwealth Budget decisions on the Arts; and 

b.the suitability and appropriateness of the establishment of a National Programme for Excellence in the Arts, to be administered by the Ministry for the Arts, with particular reference to:
i.                    the effect on funding arrangements for:
   A.                                    small to medium arts organisations,
   B.                                    individual artists,
   C.                                   young and emerging artists,
   D.                                   the Australia Council,
   E.                                    private sector funding of the arts, and
   F.                                     state and territory programs of support to the arts,
ii.                   protection of freedom of artistic expression and prevention of political   influence,
iii.                 access to a diversity of quality arts and cultural experiences,
iv.                 the funding criteria and implementation processes to be applied to the program,
v.                  implications of any duplication of administration and resourcing, and
vi.                 any related matter. 
The reporting date is 15 September 2015.The publication of submissions is not an automated process and there can be a delay of several days between a submission being provided and it being published. Once a submission is accepted and approved for publication, the submitter is sent an acknowledgement letter advising of such. A large volume of submissions have been received to the inquiry into Commonwealth arts funding; the secretariat thanks you for your patience in this matter.

Apparently in excess of 2260 submissions have been received and the uploading will take time. Among those uploaded to date Prof. Nikos Papastergiadis' submission, (No 4), is punchy and to the point.

In partnership with the National Gallery of Victoria, the National Craft Initiative presents Parallels: Journeys into Contemporary Making.

Informative, inspirational, and provocative, Parallels will host some of the world's leading thinkers and practitioners in contemporary craft and design. This two-day event will see more than 25 international and local speakers explore the future of contemporary craft and design; sharing their stories and presenting new mindsets.
